What is a Web Application
A Web application uses a web site as the front-end to a more typical application. In a web application client data input executes business logic on the server. A web application is delivered using Internet technology and meets one or more of the following conditions:
- Utilizes a database (such as Oracle or SQL Server)
- Extracts data from multi-record files
- Requires a constantly running server process (such as Newsgroups and Chatrooms)
- Stores input data from data entry screens or web forms
Depending on its requirements, a web application may be an Internet Application or an Intranet Application.
Common Web Applications are
- Content Management Systems - for easily creating, editing storing, organising and publishing content on the web.
- Blog or WebLog - for frequent sharing of chronological thought, information, and Web links.
- Online Calendars - Post upcoming events online and allow users to schedule reminder emails when an event is approaching.
- Surveys - often used to gauge interest on a specific subject.
- CRM - Constituant Relatinship Managers - A tool for sharing information with your customers and vendors
